Yonder releases their debut EP "Memento Mori"

“In the early 1980s, Duluth faced economic crisis during a recession related to the closure of the U.S. Steel plant. According to the Star Tribune, over 14,000 residents had moved away, and unemployment rates were skyrocketing by 1983. Amidst this uncertainty about the future of the city, a billboard popped up on I-35 heading southbound- ‘Will the last one leaving Duluth please turn the light out?’ …this billboard is a driving force of inspiration behind Yonder’s debut EP, Memento Mori, which hit streaming platforms on January 24th.

In collaboration with bandmates Hattie Peach and Oliver Gerber, Emma Jeanne says the composition of the six songs selected for this release reflect their experiences with “checking in and checking out” of phases, places, and relationships. ‘This EP captures the essence of returning and reconnecting; sitting with the grief of change, but also letting go.’

Hattie and Emma’s voices dance together in haunting harmony, singing stories of vulnerability, dreams, fears, finding the strength to let go, and the importance of caring for yourself before the innocence of warning (the “oil light,”) runs your momentum into the ground.” - Sophie Hiroko

Yonder is an emerging Minneapolis-based Alt-Americana band. Leading ladies Hattie Peach (violin, vocals) and Emma Jeanne (rhythm guitar, vocals) began experimenting as co-writers in their Duluth dorm room years ago. Joined by Oliver Gerber (Lapdogs) on lead guitar, Aaron Kramer on keys (Lapdogs), Dylan Hilliker (Greentop) on drums, and Calvin Carrison (Big Delicious) on bass, Yonder fuses influences from their previous local projects into a fresh, eclectic sound on Memento Mori. Recorded at Cloud Factory in Cannon Falls, MN with producer/engineer Abe Anderson, the six song EP was released on January 24, 2025.
